And The 10 Richest People in the World Right Now Are...

According to Bloomberg calculations, the top 10 richest people in the world are split between old-money inheritors and new-money entrepreneurs. A few of the world's 100 richest people have the same last name.


1. BILL GATES

Net worth: $76.2 billion. The cofounder and chairman of Microsoft remains the richest man on Earth. About 80 percent of his fortune is held in Cascade Investment.

2. CARLOS SLIM

Net worth: $69.6 billion. The Mexican tycoon and investor owns America Movil, the largest mobile-phone carrier in the Americas.

3. AMANCIO ORTEGA

Net worth: $64.5 billion. The founding chairman of retailer giant Inditex owns 59 percent of the fashion group.

4. WARREN BUFFETT

Net worth: $58.8 billion. In addition to being an extremely successful investor, Buffett is the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.

5. INGVAR KAMPRAD

Net worth: $51.6 billion. Kamprad founded Ikea as a 17-year-old, and today controls what has become the world's largest furniture retailer.

6 and 7. THE KOCH BROTHERS

Net worth: $47.4 billion. Charles Koch and David Koch tie, with over 47 billion dollars each. Charles (chairman and CEO) and David (executive vice president) control Koch Industries, an oil firm started by their entrepreneurial father, Fred Koch.

8. LARRY ELLISON

Net worth: $38.9 billion. Ellison is cofounder and CEO of Oracle, the world's largest enterprise software company.

9. CHRISTY WALTON

Net worth: $38.4 billion. The widow of John T. Walton, son of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton, inherited her husband's $15.7 billion fortune, becoming the world's richest female.

10. JIM WALTON

Net worth: $36.6 billion. The youngest son of the Wal-Mart founder is chairman of Arvest Bank and owns more than 413 million shares.
